Beigua Park

The Beigua Park is one of the most precious treasures of the territory of Varazze, as well as an essential stage of every excursion in the Savona area and beyond. In 2005, given the importance of its geological and mineralogical, but also archaeological and paleontological heritage, the Park is officially one of UNESCO’s International Global Geoparks.

What to see?

With its almost 40 thousand hectares of land, distributed in the territories of 10 municipalities, the area is the ideal destination for those seeking an escape from the chaos of the city in nature. Within it you can try your hand at trails and excursions, practicing sports and many other outdoor activities, for families or experienced walkers.

Easily accessible from the municipal territory of Varazze, Beigua Park offers endless opportunities for recreation.

  • Trekking and hiking in the paths of the Park, including routes for Nordic Walking and
    snowshoeing
  • Mountain Bike in Beigua Cycle Routes. The Park includes two asphalt tracks for the two
    wheels: Beigua Ring and the Ring of Valli del Sol (Stura, Orba, and Leira).
  • Birdwatching, to admire the passage of migratory birds of prey and passerines. Various
    species of hawks, kites and storks offer a truly unique spectacle in spring and autumn.
  • Mushroom picking, strictly with a badge from the local mushroom consortia
  • Picnicking and tent camping in the Park’s equipped green areas

The Park is also a privileged destination for tasting the specialities of the territory at 0 km. Produced in respect of the environment and according to the wise recipes of tradition, to be tasted on site while admiring the splendid view or to be purchased as a welcome souvenir.

  • Honeys of Beigua Park produced by local beekeeping companies.
  • Dried pastries and sweets of the territory, from Amaretto di Sassello to Canestrelli.
  • Pasta (Mandilli, trofie, fresh stuffed pasta) and flours milled in the ancient stone mill.
  • Oven-baked products such as revzöra, corn muffins, and tirotto, local bread made with flour and potatoes. To be eaten hot and fragrant, stuffed with local salami and cheese.
  • Cheeses and dairy products, including the popular Formaggetta della Valle Stura, a product certified with the Traditional Agri-food Product mark, or Pecorino del Beigua.
  • Cured meats and foods of animal origin, such as the delicious Lard Pate, flavoured with local and wild herbs

  • Saffron, from the local cultivation of pistils.
  • Beer, produced with ingredients at km 0 and following the seasonality of fermentation.
