The Pinacoteca Civica of Savona is one of the sites of interest for which it is worth moving a little from Varazze. Reachable in just half an hour by car, this museum complex in the heart of the port of Savona is one of the jewels in the Region’s crown and offers a rich overview of Ligurian art and culture – but not only.

Seventeenth-century shovels, polyptychs, Renaissance frescoes and paintings furnish the rooms of the Pinacoteca, where you can discover works of great value such as the Pala Fornari by Vincenzo Foppa or the Crucifixion by Donato de’ Bardi. This work, dated 1448, is the oldest oil painting on canvas in the world.

Remaining at Palazzo Gavotti, there is a second route consisting of the collection of Milena Milani, a writer from Savona, in memory of Carlo Cardazzo. A collection of international contemporary art that boasts works by Picasso, Fontana, De Chirico, Magritte, Mirò, Dubuffet and many others.
